We'll Meet Again
Before reaching the outside world became a common occurence, we remained in the darkness, away from the shackles of the society above.
Every time the thought of what was out there came to us at all, we would go through severe punishments. The coexistence with humanity was just not one that any of us could go through just yet. To our eldest, he valued our safety above everything else.
But one day, a stranger came down to meet me.
Walking down the most dangerous paths, she offered a deal that I could not refuse...and the two of us became friends.
I was instructed not to tell anybody about our meetups. Not even my family. Especially not my family. There was nothing else I could do but follow her lead.

Bari
???
Do you see it?

Bari
???
It's a nice view, don't you think? Here, I brought something for you. They call it a snack around here.

Samson
Child of Typhon
...Thank you.

Samson
Child of Typhon
......

Samson
Child of Typhon
I've been thinking. You seem to know a lot about this world. There are probably...people who are far more equipped to come with you.

Samson
Child of Typhon
So why me? Why didn't you pick any of my other siblings?

Bari
???
I don't really care about qualifications like that.

Bari
???
You just looked like someone who needed a breath of fresh air for once.
Indeed, Bari had a lot of hopes about the world around us. Her ideals and mine were different, but that was probably the charm of it.
We constantly met under the gleaming moon. Is that how she earned that name?
I can't be so certain. I just know that she also had a goal in mind when we came across a certain place one night.

Bari
???
Hey, Samson. There's somebody I've been eyeing for a long time.

Bari
???
Should I send you to fight him? You're a lot stronger than I am.

Samson
Child of Typhon
Huh? No way. If I'm going to prove your point, I might end up killing someone again.

Bari
???
I guess you're right. Will you come with me, at least? So you can watch.
I was so oblivious to the practices of this world, so I declined. It didn't feel right for me to intervene. Little did I know, he would find me anyway.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
You are...!

Samson
Child of Typhon
Gah!

Bari
???
Wait, stop! It's okay!
Before any of this, I had the pleasure of listening to Bari's rambles. Something about how bloodfiends and humans were at war with each other. I guess when we encountered each other, it left room for a lot of questions.
That Quixote was almost ready to drive me off his land in the name of justice. I was neither human nor bloodfiend, but something far, far worse. We dreaded thinking about the circumstances, and Bari managed to calm us down before anything could happen.
Nonetheless, because Bari dragged me into the mess, I ended up befriending him too.
But unlike her, I was a lot more reserved. I hid from anyone that wasn't the two of them, even on Quixote's insistence.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
My friend, why do you sit so far away?

Don Quixote
First Kindred
Is it so bad to wish for you to meet my child?

Samson
Child of Typhon
...I'm afraid I'll hurt her somehow. It's happened before.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
Such fears must be conquered eventually, you know!

Samson
Child of Typhon
Still, to wake her up just to tell her about me...? I don't know, I shouldn't...

Don Quixote
First Kindred
I see what Bari means now.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
Regardless, this company of yours is most pleasant. I have much to tell you after all!

Don Quixote
First Kindred
If it brings more comfort, why don't you and I go outside and lay on the grass together?

Don Quixote
First Kindred
That way, no one else can bother us.

Samson
Child of Typhon
That's...Pfft. You're really strange. Sure, why not.
Alonso...
He was always a lonely soul.
For him and I to have gotten along at all was a miracle on its own right. How he loved my presence, I wasn't so sure.
To have a friend with the patience to teach me about our very surroundings, and a friend whose passions were contagious enough that I felt I could take on anything...
Until now, I wonder if I deserved these two at all.
Soon enough, these goals of his were relayed to me. A land where humans and bloodfiends could coexist. The idea was absurd, even to me.
At the same time, some particularly terrible news came about involving my own family. I could not stay to see where this idea would go.
That...was one of my biggest mistakes.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
Samson! Please, stay a little longer!

Samson
Child of Typhon
I...I can't. My mother, she...

Samson
Child of Typhon
She's destroying everything. I have to stop her.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
...I understand.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
You have a sense of justice too, do you not?

Samson
Child of Typhon
There's no time for talks about justice—

Don Quixote
First Kindred
You do. Very well!

Don Quixote
First Kindred
That is most important.
When he said those words to me, I saw heartbreak in his eyes. At the time, it wasn't really about justice or the greater good to me. I just hated my mother, and that was all.
He knew something I did not.
That knowing what had been forced upon us, we were destined to part ways eventually.
I still remember how he wrapped those arms around me, and waited for me to let go. When he spoke again, his voice shook.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
Shall we meet again?
He didn't want to face the truth.
I didn't, either. I regretted my uncertainty.

Samson
Child of Typhon
I don't know.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
If that is the case...

Don Quixote
First Kindred
I have faith that you will do the right thing, no matter what.

Don Quixote
First Kindred
Now, go! And do not come back until it's over.
I followed his words without realizing it.
For many years, I spent my life saving people from different threats, beginning with my mother. Still, I was proven to be too dangerous to fit within the standards of the City. Under the eyes of the lower laws, I was a hazard on my own. It didn't take long for the very fixers Alonso idolized to turn against me.
Time did not stop for anybody.
And time was a force that could not be stopped.
So many more years passed and everything grew worse.
I later joined a corporation which would rot everything from the inside out. Where I swore it would all get better from here...

Bari
???
Samson.
...She came back to tell me the news.

Samson
Child of Typhon
...Bari? Why are you here?

Samson
Child of Typhon
Let's talk later. I'm about to leave. The Bus Department is at P Corp—

Bari
???
He's gone.

Bari
???
We were too late.
I fell into my knees, but that was nothing compared to the grief she must have felt.
Time didn't stop for anybody.
Even for someone who could supposedly control it.
All we could do...was lament in the end.
